For dessert I had Bailey's Cheesecake. It was called a Bite of Bailey's cheesecake meaning it was a small version but it was more than a bite. It was however a small portion.
After lunch I walked down the street past the famous Temple Bar. The street itself wound around
In a haphazard fashion with tourist shops and bars and restaurants. The street itself was old cobblestone both on the narrow sidewalks and the street itself. The Temple Bar is famous for food and ale and is easy to spot with it's bright red paint and corner location. I decided to walk to the Guiness Storehouse from here. This was perhaps a mistake on my part since it was not as close by as I had hoped. Twice I thought I would turn back but I kept going.
Along the way were hordes of people- perhaps many were tourists like myself. There were cars everywhere and for myself (and perhaps others not native of Ireland) had to be careful as the traffic here drives of the other side of the roads from what we are used to). I am also seeing many cabs being pulled by horses rather than powered by motors. I was amazed that I never saw a single accident. The cab drivers have their own methods. One honk means you are coming through- two means go ahead (I think).
The Guiness Storehouse is the most popular tourist attraction in the city. It is a walk-through tour of how Guiness is made and goes vertical up to the 5th floor were there are 360 degree panoramic views of the city. Along the way to the top there are many exhibits of how Guiness is made. One can walk as most people did or take an elevator from floor to floor.
Many exhibits are comical but connect with the Guinness images. There is also an opportunity to collect recipes (using Guinness of course. On the seventh floor, is the famous Gravity Bar.
Here I tried a Black Velvet Cocktail;
The story goes that the drink was invented in 1861at Brook's Club in London. Prince Albert had died. Everyone was in mourning. The steward at the club was overcome with grief and ordered that even the champagne should be put into mourning. He mixed it with Guinneess. The taste was so delicious the drink became popular. 1/2 a flute of Guinness Extra Stout was poured into champagne flute and topped with champagne. The dark color resembles a pint of Guinness with a frothy head.
