Springtime in Carlsbad

Springtime in Carlsbad

For my seventh birthday, my mother's cousin, Della Wisdom brought me a tray of homemade cookies.  Every one was perfect.  They had been cut from a tulip cutter and each one was a different color.  I still remember Della walking in the door of my Grandmother's house in Bedford, Iowa holding down the tray of tulip cookies for me to see.  Whatever else I got for my birthday is long forgotton but never the cookies.  This year I made cookies myself.  I couldn't fine a tulip cutter but I had a new "ice cream " cutter I had never used so I cut the dough with these for the family dinners on the weekend.

I also made some smaller ccokies to send to cousin David Buchanon in Crescent City-

I saved a few carrots for Sunday dinner and put them on the bunny tray I purchased last year at Roger's Gardens gift shop in Orange County.

A Visit from a Friend

A Visit from a Friend

Last week my friend, Karen came for a visit from Arizona.  We celebrated both our birthdays (mine in March and hers in April).  Since we no longer live close, we decided to get together in between the two dates.  She arrived last Tuesday.  We decided to save our gifts to one another until the next day.

We ate that evening at the new French restaurant in Carlsbad- Jeune et Jolie.  It was packed and noisy inside so we sat outdoors.  Our first order was a bread course with house made butter.  I was surprised we had to order bread but it was well worth it.

I ordered seafood.  It was as good as it looked.

For dessert, we shared a house treat.  It came with 2 birthday candles.

The following day, we went to Rogers Gardens and ate lunch in their beautiful garden restaurant- The Farmhouse.  And we celebrated AGAIN!  We like to have fun celebrating more than counting how old we are.  HA!

On her last full day in Carlsbad, we went to see Diana - the play about Princess Diana.  It was playing near the UC San Diego campus at the La Jolla Playhouse.  We both really enjoyed the play- a musical comedy play about Princess Diana.

We stopped on the way back at the Chart House to watch the sunset and eat.  It was packed because it is so popular to eat here at this time of day- especially when many people come south from LA to escape the city and enjoy the ocean.
