Staying at Home

COVID Grocery Shopping

None of us want the virus to come into our families.  Like most others I try to plan ahead and shop infrequently.  Yesterday I made my third trip to the store since the virus hit.  I put on my homemade mask and now I have a few gloves to wear.  I previously used plastic baggies which were awkward at best. My son in LA had ordered gloves for me when this all started and mailed them to me but they have never arrived.  Anyway now I am set.  Today I went to Smart & Final.

It was not that crowded, thank goodness.  People did not seem as anxious and desperate as my last trip.  All customers were wearing masks and hand coverings and the check-out lnes were spaced out.  Store personel were equally careful although the checker looked exhausted.  On my last trip some products seemed to disappear that seemed to indicate hording for strange reasons (like the shortage of toilet paper).  What were people thinking???

My parents lived on a farm when World War II began.  There were shortages then and the government issued food stamps to everyone based on the size of the family. We almost never went to a grocery store then.  Our farm was self sufficient.  However my older brother was growing fast and
going through shoes faster than we had stamps for.  My mother then often traded stamps with other families-  Food for Shoes!

I long for the days when I can go again to the stores and mingle in conversation to other shoppers.  I also miss the relaxed atmosphere of the stores (those that are even open).  I long for times when we can return to mingling among others, trips to the barber shop and hair dressers, and manicures, and
window shopping.

Some of the Things I Miss....

My condo in Mammoth Lakes.  It sits waiting for me but it doesn't seem possible to go up right now.  Mammoth is in the same situataion as we are.
I hope to get up there soon.

I miss traveling.  My favorite spot is Paris.  Look at what is on my table and you will see why it is so special.  I am having dessert at Lauduree-  I don't take tours.  I just like to walk around town- I suppose it is more like eating my way across town.

I miss family.  I see my sons who live in Escondido but not the children.  This was taken at a birthday party years ago.  Now she is waiting on a new sibling to arrive.  Grandchildren are so special!
